The practice that is now Primary Eyecare began with Dr. Mike DiGirolamo (“Dr. D”) in California in the 1970s, and was relocated to Charlottesville in 1987 as 20/20 Optometry. Dr.D moved to the current Barracks Road location in 1995, providing patients with an expanded facility and easier access.

Drs. Joe and Janice DiGirolamo joined Primary Eyecare in 1996, working with Dr.D until his retirement in the late 1990’s. During this time, the practice and the scope of patient services continued to grow.

Today, Primary Eyecare has two state-of-the-art facilities in Charlottesville. We are staffed with highly experienced professionals and provide patients with the very best in eye care and eyewear in a comfortable and friendly environment. We are able to offer the highest level of service and treatment because of our commitment to the ongoing professional training of our doctors and support staff and our investments in the latest diagnostic and treatment instrumentation.
