Dr. Joe DiGirolamo grew up in Southern California, and after moving to Charlottesville he graduated from Western Albemarle High School. (Several of his teachers are now patients.) He then received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Villanova University located in Philadelphia. Remaining in Philadelphia, Dr. D. attended and graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University. Upon graduating, Dr. DiGirolamo energetically joined his father in practice at Primary Eyecare. Several years later his father retired, and he and his wife became responsible for the practice. Since then the practice has expanded to include several associate doctors & locations to serve the central Virginia community.

In addition to being a healthcare administrator and clinician, Dr. DiGirolamo authored “The Big Book of Family Eyecare,” -A contemporary reference for vision and eye health. Be sure to look for it on local bookstore shelves, as well as at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. www.EyecareBook.com.

Dr. DiGirolamo enjoys spending time with his wife and children, reading, exercising and all things related to automobiles.

In 2013, Dr. DiGirolamo became a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry (ABO).To attain this honor, he completed a series of rigorous post-graduate activities and subsequently passed a challenging examination on issues spanning the scope of practice of optometry.

Dr. DiGirolamo enjoys being a member of the Charlottesville community and supports local charitable events and organizations including the Charlottesville Women’s Four Miler, Charlottesville Wounded Warrior 5K, and local youth sports teams.
